Jane's diary: September
We peek into the monthly diary of Jane Shepherdson - our inspirational CEO.
London Fashion Week Show
Our LFW presentation has to be the highlight of the month. We took over the newly opened tunnel beneath King’s Cross St Pancras, which was fabulous. Among the throngs of fashion press, Hanneli and Oliva Palermo both looked gorgeous – we particularly loved Hanneli’s Whistles pinafore and Nike crop top combo. The collection was really strong; laser-cut leather, raffia ruffled tube skirts and those chunky espadrilles…roll on SS15! View the full collection here.
Dinner at the Ham Yard Hotel
I enjoyed a gorgeous meal with friends at the Ham Yard Hotel earlier this month. Determined to catch the last of the summer sunshine, we dined on the tree-lined piazza, which was delightful. I opted for the chicken breast with summer truffles followed by a generous slice of the cherry pie. 1 Ham Yard, Soho, London, W1D 7DT
Meeting with Elle magazine
I met with the inspiring team at Elle magazine this month to discuss our upcoming collaboration to redesign The Fawcett Society’s iconic ‘this is what a feminist looks like’ t-shirt. I’m a big fan of all the campaigning for women’s equality that the Fawcett Society do, so it’s a thrill to be involved. As well as the iconic t-shirt, we will be producing sweatshirts and a clutch bag all bearing the same message, on sale from October 30th. Can’t wait!
LCF Fashion Matters at The Savoy
Held every year at The Savoy, London College of Fashion's dinner for Fashion Matters is a brilliant event. I sat with my friends Caroline Rush and Hilary Riva, pictured above, throughout the auction and dinner. All of the money raised at Fashion Matters creates bursaries and support for students who are not able to fund their own fashion education. A cause which I am proud to support.
Item of the month: Portland Backpack
As stylish as it is versatile, this backpack is a Whistles classic. We produced an exclusive nude colourway for our SS15 show - available to shop now. I’ve used mine constantly; the nude hue seems to compliment my entire wardrobe and it’s big enough to carry all your daily essentials – I’ve even managed to store a quick shoe change inside it for evening events.

St Pancras International store opening
Just ahead of our subterranean LFW show, we opened our newest London store at St Pancras International. Our first ever customers enjoyed complimentary manicures and drinks while browsing both our men’s and women’s collections side by side. The space is gorgeous – all open plan and glass except for those stunning original brick arches. Read Whistles neighbourhood: Kings Cross for an insiders guide to this thriving London district.
