Backstage: women autumn/winter 2014

Our autumn/winter Limited Edition collection was presented at London Fashion Week with a lowkey and sophisticated vibe, our new eveningwear was particularly in focus. Located in the elegant environs of a Marylebone townhouse, the fashion pack wandered around the light and bright rooms fit for a salon, with models showcasing what we want to wear come winter. Understated and cool, this was a very Whistles take on what to wear when the sun goes down. “We wanted to make a really easy, effortless take on evening,” explains Chief Executive, Jane Shepherdson. “It’s not overtly sexy, it’s more about confidence. That’s the Whistles DNA.”

Lilac is a colour that was really important – it has such connotations of twinset and pearls so making it modern feels exciting. Oversized coats were the perfect shape, as if borrowed from your boyfriend. We love the contrast between the volume of a coat like this and a party dress worn underneath. Flats worked really well to dial eveningwear down a notch. We worked on checks this season that looked the same from a distance but very different up close. This intarsia is printed on silk for an unexpected trompe l’oeil effect. A playful collection, shaking off sculptural silhouettes and embracing fluid pieces and fabrics that move. Confidence, comfort and chic come together here – we think you’ll find it’s a desirable combination.
