Jane's diary: January

We peek into the diary of our inspirational CEO Jane Shepherdson.

The Ivy Market Grill

After visiting our Long Acre store in Covent Garden, I went for dinner at the newly opened sister restuarant of The Ivy. The interior is worth the visit alone - a luxurious but friendly brasserie feel made for a cosy atmosphere - perfect for the cold winter months. I took advantage of the menu's British ingredients and opted for classic comfort with the Shepherd's pie. I'm looking forward to returning to taste their mouth watering brunch menu.

The Merchant of Venice

I went to my favourite local theatre in Islington to see Rupert Goold's enthralling production The Merchant of Venice. Shakespeare's controversial play is relocated to modern Las Vegas, in a flurry of gambling and glitter, "everyone's out to make a killing; but everything comes at a price". It was so fantastic and run's until mid Feb - I highly recommend getting a ticket before the play ends.

Brand day

We kicked off the season with brand day at the wonderfully luxurious new Mondrian Hotel on the South Bank. We presented the summer collections to our store managers, and heard which trends our designers are backing this season - according to Nick, our design director, its all about fluidity, movement and elegance, so watch this space. We also previewed mens, which looks very tasteful - a favourite piece is the Patterned Windcheater – a classic cagoul shape, complete with map pocket, but in a contemporary print. The Mondrian bar has the most sensational view across the Thames to St Pauls and beyond, and was the perfect place for a few drinks to end the day.

South America

I spent Christmas in Ecuador and the Galapagos islands – I keep meaning to explore the East, but always seem to end up in South America. There’s something about the culture, people and incredible scenery that draws me back again and again. Ecuador was new for me, we travelled down the Avenue of Volcanoes from Quito to Cuenca, stopping to climb the snowcapped Cotopaxi and visiting colourful markets and haciendas on the High Andean Plains. We travelled to the Galapagos Islands which are brimming with prehistoric looking wildlife - huge turtles and scary looking iguanas roam around the land, and the sea is filled with tropical fish, rays, small sharks and very playful sea lions...snorkelling has never been so much fun.

Item of the month: denim

I am completely obsessed with denim this month. After seeing the denim range guide, I’m feeling as if I need several new pairs to update my wardrobe. Current favourites are the Relaxed Boyfriend with the huge raw turn up, which I will be wearing with a wedge or flatform and fitted top – probably the bonded stripe tee. I'm also tempted by the slightly cropped Slim Straight, it flatters by kicking out a little at the ankle – perfect with a pointy shoe or simple flat. As its cold at the moment, I’ll wear them with an oversized jumper but no socks. My third choice has to be the double denim look – Indigo Skinny Jeans with a Classic Denim Jacket...perfect.

I was thrilled to receive a CBE in the Honours List for 2015. Fashion is something that we excel at in Britain, and I feel very privileged to be a part of such a creative industry. To get this kind of recognition for it, is both unexpected and delightful – I only hope that I can live up to it! Read more about The Honours List on vogue.co.uk. (Image credit: Vogue)
