Watch: Montage of Heck

A pastiche of real life footage, animation and interviews constructs a touching insight into the life and loves of Kurt Cobain.

The documentary, directed by Brett Morgen, traces the life of the Nirvana frontman, from his sad childhood spent in Aberdeen, Washington to the peak of his fame at the forefront of the Seattle grunge scene and then, his tragic decline to suicide in 1994. One of the most poignant elements to emerge from the film is Cobain’s complex relationship with his own stratospheric fame, which is portrayed as the impetus of his drug addiction throughout the film. What his widow, Courtney Love, described as initially ‘magical’ quickly became overbearing and claustrophobic to Cobain who famously became a victim of his own success.

Interviewees, including family members and ex-bandmate Dave Grohl, begin to piece together the missing pieces of the jigsaw. The series of moving memories and haunting recollections are sure to leave you rapt, and completely awe-struck.

Montage of Heck is due to be released in UK cinemas on April 14th. Watch the trailer here.
