Watch: The cartel drama Narcos
Charting the rise and fall of Columbian kingpin Pablo Escobar, Netflix’s newest series is here in time for a bank holiday binge.
Launching today on Netflix, ‘Narcos’ is the latest of the on-demand service’s big budget, high-concept shows. Based around the life of 1970’s drug lord Pablo Escobar, the story switches between three compelling perspectives: DEA agents Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) and their pursuit of the Narcos, the cartel itself and Valeria Velez (Stephanie Sigma), a reporter that had an affair with Escobar at the height of his power.
Escobar’s rags to riches story and the 80s drug wars provide a rich narrative vein, with all the drama, sex and violence on display that we’ve come to expect from similarly premium shows like ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Wire’.
Narcos is available on Netflix now. For an extra hit of cartel-laced entertainment, try Don Winslow’s ‘Power of the Dog’ or Mark Bowden’s ‘Killing Pablo’.
