North: Identity, Photography, Fashion

27.01.2017

Northern England and its creative crowd are the subject of new exhibition, North: Identity, Photography, Fashion at Liverpool’s Open Gallery, co-curated by former Editor-at-Large of SHOWstudio and Whistles Woman, Lou Stoppard.

The exhibition explores the extent of the cultural influence of Northern style, art and music, and dissects the way that the north is depicted and celebrated in popular culture through a series of fashion collections, photographs, videos and artworks. Whilst much of the work on display comes from artists originating from the region, the exhibition also showcases work by international designers who have been known to take style notes from the North.

The exhibition showcases the work of iconic photographers Jamie Hawkesworth, Alasdair McLellan, Glen Luchford and Corinne Day, video art installations by Turner Prize winner Mark Leckey, and fashion from Claire Barrow, Christopher Shannon and Raf Simons. Don’t miss the notable collaboration between American fashion designer Virgil Abloh and infamous Hacienda nightclub designer Ben Kelly, produced exclusively for the exhibition. A loveletter to the North of England, get this exhibition on your weekend to-do list now.

North: Identity, Photography, Fashion is open at Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool from 6th January – 19th March 2017.
