Whistles Muse: Bianca Jagger

A key player in New York’s infamous Studio 54 set (yes, she was the one who rode in on that horse), a close friend of Andy Warhol’s and Mick Jagger’s partner, former actress Bianca Jagger is one of the unsung style icons of the ’70s and ’80s.

Having moved to Britain from Nicaragua, she met Mick at a Rolling Stones after-party, becoming quickly renowned as somewhat of a socialite and jet setter. These days she’s a social and human rights advocate, currently serving as the Council of Europe Goodwill Ambassador, whilst simultaneously acting as founder and chairman of the Bianca Jagger Human Rights foundation.

It was following a harrowing visit to a refugee camp in Honduras in 1981 that Bianca traded her social life for social activism. Not only did she help in facilitating one of the first ever music relief converts in LA in 1993 to raise money for earthquake relief, she’s also spent years campaigning against oppressive governments in Central and South America, and has dedicated much of her time to the Red Cross, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Now that’s impressive.

And her style? When it comes to power dressing, nobody has mastered it quite like Bianca. Take a trip back through Pinterest’s archive imagery and you’re sure to see black and white photographs of the muse wearing oversized masculine pinstripes or a corduroy two-piece suit. Her trademark look? A monochrome co-ord, worn with a crisp shirt, complete with a thin black neck-tie. With her style just as relevant now as it was then, we’ve curated some of our most-loved Bianca Jagger fashion moments.
