The Makeup Trends To Tap Into This Party Season

While the party season hasn’t quite returned to the heady heights of 2019, there’s definitely more of a social sparkle to this year’s festivities. To help you get into the party spirit, we’ve teamed up with Space NK to highlight the five makeup trends to tap into. Whether you want to take a minimalist approach or channel high-octane glamour, you’ll find something to suit you and your outfit here.

Gold Statements

Get into the festive spirit with a flash of gold across your eyes. Go for a sparkly eyeshadow – we love Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Grace and take it across your eyelid for a strong finish, or blend it up and out for a more subtle wash of colour depending on your outfit.

Return Of The Nineties

If you prefer your lips to be the focus, swap your classic red lipstick for a rich burgundy shade that’s so deep it could almost be brown. An ode to the signature Nineties lip look – think Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel Green and brick brown, this statement lip look suits every skin tone. Opt for a matte finish, such as Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in So 90’s, and to maximise the longevity, don’t forget to line and fill your lips before applying your lipstick.

Nothing But Glow

While the ‘no makeup’ makeup look used to be the go-to for a beauty minimalist, paring back your look to nothing but a healthy radiant complexion is now very much en vogue. Prioritise your skincare with a hydrating moisturiser at the helm and before using a glow-boosting tinted moisturiser and strategically place a light-reflecting highlighter (cue Hourglass Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick) across brow and cheekbones. Adding a tiny dot of highlighter into the inner corners of your eyes will help lift dark circles, while placing a smudge just above your Cupid’s bow will give the illusion of fuller-looking lips too.

Blurred Lines

Pretty much all of us own a black eyeliner, it’s a failsafe makeup buy. For the party season, dial it up by taking your liner out further for an elongated cat’s eye. Nod to the grunge trend by layering on more liner than usual and use your finger or a brush to gently smudge along the lash line. For this, we love Sweed Lashes Satin Kohl Eyeliner as it offers some movement to blend and then sets in place.

Molten Metallics

If you want to make a statement with your makeup, opt for a metallic smoky eye – it’s a party classic for a reason. Whether you’re wearing a Sequin Midi Dress or a Velvet Wrap Top, a smoky eye will compliment your look. Use a neutral matte eyeshadow as a base, before layering a bronze metallic hue across your eyes. Take a darker shade along your lash line and blend up and outwards to achieve that diffused finish. If you want a fool-proof guide, invest in a palette (try Anastasia Beverly Hills Primrose Palette) as all the shades can be worn alone or together for a flattering finish.
