Workwear Decoded: What We Wear To Work

The evolution of office culture has encouraged a more flexible approach to work dressing. While we still turn to classic tailoring and timeless styles, we also value comfort and versatility to complement more modern ways of working. The trouble is that sometimes more choice can be daunting – do we gravitate towards suits and separates or do we style our favourite jeans with smarter knitwear? How do we mix and match our staples for the season?

We asked Team Whistles to talk us through their approach to work dressing to guide you through this autumn-winter.

Sadie Watts, Head of Communications

“I like a boyish uniform for work. No one day is typical when working in communications – it’s a very busy, social job and involves a lot of meetings around London. It is important for me to feel comfortable but also to find a look that can take me from breakfasts to evening events. My go-to outfit is a pair of jeans, cords or tailored trousers paired with a luxury cashmere knit. I like to mix up my jewellery and accessories depending on my mood.”

Helen Williamson, Managing Director

“I have to feel comfortable and confident in my outfit choices, which are always considered and appropriate for whatever is in my diary. I’ve recently been investing in pinstripe wool suits – I’m loving wearing tailoring again.”

Camille Sullivan, Buying Director

“I don’t navigate towards formal workwear as like to feel relaxed and comfortable. I prefer to wear a midi dress and boots during autumn and I’ll layer outfits with a roll neck when it gets colder. Alternatively, I style signature jeans with a classic shirt or knit and finish my look with a pair of lace-up leather boots.”
